As Xi Jinping noted, after establishing diplomatic relations 75 years ago, China and Russia have jointly embarked on a new path of mutual respect, harmonious coexistence and cooperation for the sake of common benefit between large neighboring countries, setting a model for a new type of international relations and ties between large neighboring states.
Xi Jinping said that China is ready to work with Russia to strengthen the alignment of development strategies and reveal the internal impulses of interstate cooperation in order to continuously benefit both countries and their peoples.
China and Russia should strengthen communication and cooperation within multilateral structures such as the United Nations, BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, firmly uphold the international system with the UN at its core, adhere to genuine multilateralism, push the development of the world order in a more just and reasonable direction, and jointly safeguard global strategic stability, international fairness and justice, the Chinese leader added.
Xi Jinping noted that since the establishment of relations between the CPC and the United Russia Party for more than 20 years, the two sides have maintained high-level constructive cooperation, strengthened exchanges and mutual learning on party and state governance, and constantly enriched the content of institutional exchanges between the two parties, so as to enhance political and strategic mutual trust between China and Russia.
According to Xi Jinping, the two parties, as important forces promoting human progress, should further strengthen coordination and cooperation, conduct global governance on the right course, and consolidate the consensus of friendly political parties in countries around the world, especially in the Global South, so as to promote the development of the world in the right direction.
Speaking about the Ukrainian crisis, Xi Jinping recalled that China has repeatedly stressed the need to adhere to the three principles of not expanding the battlefield, not escalating hostilities, and not adding fuel to the fire, while striving for an early de-escalation of the situation. He added that China will continue to adhere to its consistent position, and work with the international community to create favorable conditions for a political settlement of the crisis.
D. Medvedev, for his part, handed Xi Jinping a letter from Russian President Vladimir Putin and said that he was very pleased to visit China again in the year of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and China. According to him, the current high-level Russian-Chinese cooperation is the result of joint leadership and assistance from President V. Putin and Chairman Xi Jinping.
The Russian side will promote strategic cooperation, strictly implementing the consensus reached by the heads of the two states, D. Medvedev assured.
Noting that exchanges and cooperation between United Russia and the CPC bear special responsibility in relations between the two countries, D. Medvedev noted that United Russia is ready to promote practical cooperation and youth exchanges through the mechanism of dialogue between the ruling parties of Russia and China, strengthen the education of traditional values, such as patriotism, and promote long-term development of interstate relations.
D. Medvedev stated that the Russian side highly values China's position on the Ukrainian crisis, pays attention to the "Friends of Peace" group /an initiative put forward by China, Brazil and other countries on the Ukrainian crisis/ and is ready to actively promote a political settlement of the crisis in Ukraine.
China's position
On Feb. 26, 2022, China released the official document on the Ukrainian crisis.
Here is a summary of the five points:
China supports respecting and safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries and respecting the UN Charter.
Russia's legitimate security appeals should rightly be taken seriously and appropriately resolved.
All parties should exercise restraint to prevent the situation from deteriorating further and prevent a large-scale humanitarian crisis.
China supports all diplomatic efforts conducive to the peaceful resolution of the crisis in Ukraine.
China would not agree with Security Council resolutions that readily and lightly call for the authorization of the use of force and sanctions under Chapter VII.
